A piece of Darlington's history is on the market

Available for sale via Carver Commercial, this is a fantastic development opportunity and chance to purchase a piece of Darlington's history.

Full details - Click Here

HISTORY

The Northern Echo began publishing on the site in 1870 in a former thread and shoelace factory. It was joined by its sister paper, the Darlington and Stockton Times which dates back to 1847, and much of the current building was constructed between 1914 and 1916.

The project was delayed by the First World War but the building was formally opened on September 13, 1917.
It was extended up Priestgate in 1933 as part of a bid by local
businessmen to re-flate the local economy during the Great Depression. It was designed to house offices for hundreds of staff and to accommodate a large press hall, although printing on the site finished in 1990.
The building is now for sale owing to our client’s requirements to relocate to smaller premises, presently a unique development opportunity in the town centre.

SITUATION/LOCATION
The property commands extensive frontage on the corner of Priestgate and Crown Street within a conservation area of Darlington town centre. Attached to the Cornmill Shopping Centre, other nearby occupiers include T K Maxx with multi storey car park, Wetherspoons William Stead Public House, The Mercure Darlington Kings Hotel and Wilko Store with multi storey car park.
